Need Financial Help? Take Action.

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

I interviewed a major investor recently for an upcoming story on Pink Magazine Online, and she was inspiring. Basically, she reminded me that if you want changes to happen in your life, you’ve got to take responsibility and action…now.

Are you having major financial problems and need help?

Instead of waiting for government assistance, watching bad news on television or simply wasting time, you can start to make changes happen for yourself.

To start, get the information you need to switch careers, start a business, pay your bills, etc. Your local library, Chamber of Commerce, SCORE office, and others provide valuable, free tips and information if you don’t have access to the Internet.

And if you are looking on the Web, here are a few sites that may be able to help you:

www.suzeorman.com
www.startupnation.com
www.monster.com
www.careerbuilder.com

Obviously, there is a lot of information available to you. (Just a note: Check for secure and reliable sites so you receive credible information.)

My point is that it’s not the time for excuses, feeling sorry for yourself or laziness. It’s time to take action and change your life for the better! You can do it!

Think Like A Reporter

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

It’s 4:00 a.m., and I’m swamped with work. But I wanted to share a quick tip before digging into my pile of deadlines.

New business owners often ask me when, where and how they should send out a press release, what they should say and how to reach out to media members.

If you are trying to make a decision about your public relations activities, keep it simple and think like a reporter.

Ask yourself:

  • If I were these specific reporters, what would I care about?
  • What information is important, newsworthy and unique to my readers?
  • When is my deadline?

These three simple questions will help you form an effective pitch, story angle and/or PR plan – even when you are short on time.

So with this in mind, make it easy for media members to talk about your business. Give them what they want, when they want it, and be a resource.

You have nothing to lose, and lots of potential, press coverage to gain!

Change is in the Air–Time to Make a Difference

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Have you felt the buzz in the air lately? After talking to friends, family members, business associates, and acquaintances, people seem to be making positive changes all over the country, despite the economy.

Andrew Field of PrintingForLess.com developed his own economic stimulus idea for small businesses and had it mentioned on Forbes.com, a friend of mine is starting a new business after being laid off from the automotive industry, and others I’ve spoken to are facing adversity with a positive attitude. They are not willing to let current conditions ruin their lives.

With this in mind, what can you do today to make positive changes happen for you?

·       Take Action.

Now is not the time to sit on the couch and what television. Review your financial situation and create a budget. Look into learning new skills to pursue a fresh career. Start a new hobby or workout program to get in shape. Figure out what you need to do to get motivated and make things happen for you and your family.

·       Get Support.

Surround yourself with positive people and avoid anyone who has a “toxic” influence on you. Stop listening to “friends” and family members who tell you that your goals are impossible.

·       Don’t Give Up.

Change is not always easy, and it may take a lot of time and effort to see your dreams become a reality. Hang in there and realize that you the journey is well worth it, and you’ll never have to say “What if” or “If only I had…”

If you want things to change for the better, you can’t rely on others. Now, you can get help from many of the free resources available today. But if you want to improve your life fast, it’s up to you to do the work and make things happen.

Put aside the negativity, and go for it. You have nothing to lose and lots to gain!
